The incredible Aquatics Centre at the Olympic Park will host the London 2012 Paralympic Games Swimming events. With 600 swimmers from around the world competing in 148 medal events the Paralympic Swimming competition will last 10 days and will be a fantastic opportunity for you to come along and cheer on TeamGB.

There are 10 classifications for Paralympic Swimmers and these are based on how the athlete’s impairment affects their ability to perform each stroke. The breaststroke, Freestyle, Backstoke and Butterfly are the four stokes used in the Paralympic Swimming competition, which will take place in a 50m pool. Paralympic Swimmers can have a number of disabilities so they either start the race from a sitting dive position and in the water.

With a fantastic British Team coming home with 83 medals in this years IPC Swimming European Championships, and the incredible gold medals bought home by young swimmers at the Beijing 2008 Games, the London 2012 Paralympic Swimming competition will be a popular and exciting competition to watch.
